Vorgeheim 9 – Erntezeit 8

Vorgeheim 9th – 30th
We returned to Wittgendorf, only to find the village deserted. I can’t say I blame the villagers, but it would have been nice to apprehend the town physician and bring him to justice for his crimes. I sent a final report to the Physicians’ Guild at Nuln and then we set off for Altdorf, stopping in Kemperbad on the 12th.

Vorgeheim 31st
We arrived in Altdorf. I spent a day receiving additional magical training. I am now an apprentice in the College of Light, and can cast a few simple spells. We sold up our cargo and booked passage over land for Middenheim, it took the whole month of Nachgeheim to arrive at our destination.

Erntezeit 1st
We arrived in Middenheim to troubling circumstances. New taxes have been imposed on Dwarfs, priests and wizards. While neither Hurzina nor I were happy to be taxed the whole thing worries me. Priests have always fought for their independence from temporal authority, for Ar-Ulric to consent to taxes would be unheard of and sets a dangerous precedent. And driving wizards and Dwarfs from the city with taxes is simply foolish.
Having survived our encounter with the Customs Office we set up in a local inn and set out to investigate. There was no consensus on the cause of the taxes, but rumours and blame mongering were rife. The Dwarfs blame the elves, in particular the elven court bard. The non-Ulric priests blame Ar-Ulric and the priests of Ulric are utterly silent on the issue. The wizard’s guild is utterly mystified, the city’s defences require a wizard lord to operate and they can’t imagine why they would be taxed.
Erwin was able to make contact with an information broker, according to that source the elves are blameless, the military has been frozen out entirely and the biggest objector to the tax was the Law Lord Alric.

Erntezeit 2nd
The first day of the Festival. Kurt decided to participate in the Champion’s Challenge, and was defeated with pitiful ease. Of more interest was the Festival of Ales, where we met a local rake named Luigi Pavarotti, and got the chance to talk to the (still victorious) champion. His responses to our questions on the tax were strangely minimal and repetitive, even for a professional warrior. Corvin suspects he might have been hypnotised.
Finally a group of us attended a display by elven gymnasts. We got the opportunity to speak to the bard. He denies advocating for the tax, and believes the Chancellor and law lord Heinz may be behind it.

Erntezeit 3rd
We attended a performance of the Barbarian of Seville, though I’ve always preferred Estallian opera to Tilean. We met the Chancellor, and I immediately noticed that he was acting as if drugged. After interrogating him subtly he revealed that he was supplied by a “Frau Kever” and that he was to receive a new supply on the 8th, the last day of Carnival.

Erntezeit 4th
Corvin and Erwin entered an archery competiton.

Erntezeit 5th
We attended a display of fire breathers. Kurt tired to woo the princess while Luigi distracted her chaperone.

Erntezeit 6th – 7th
Having learned all we could, we waited for the 8th.

Erntezeit 8th
We tracked Kever to her home. It was a dismal hovel, but it concealed a secret entrance to a tunnel complex below. It seems that Kever was ready for us, she shot Kurt with a poison bolt that nearly killed him. Not only did she have blackmail material on Ar-Ulric, but she had kidnapped Low Lord Alric’s niece! Needless to say he was ecstatic to have her returned.
With Alric’s help we gained access to Lord Ehrlick in the palace to bring this madness to an end. What we saw when we arrived defied reason, he was caught in a fight to the death with his exact duplicate! The doppelganger cut Ehrlick’s throat and ran, fortunately I was just able to save him in time. Apparently the doppelganger arrived in the form of a gentleman named Hoffler, so we decided to investigate his apartment. It turn out that Hoffler has been dead for months and the power behind this mad plot is Vesmeyer, a local wizard of high standing.

We confronted Vesmeyer at his house, only for him to flee. We caught up with him just outside the city gates. He destroyed the gate, escaped Hurzina’s attempt to grapple him, and took to the sky. His power was incredible. While floating in midair he was able to conjure armour that deflected Kurt and Erwin’s missile attacks (and my pitiful magics) and gain controlled of Hurzina’s mind (to control a Drawf like that is staggering). I thought all was lost, when Kurt saved us all. He lit his lantern and threw it a Vesmeyer. The lantern’s fire burned the wizard’s throat and broke his concentration. He fell to his death without being able to use his powers to save them.

So ended the Cult of the Purple Hand, and with it our quest. With our task finally finished we parted ways.

Sumerzeit 31 - Vorgeheim 9

Sumerzeit 31st – Vorgeheim 5th

The outlaws are inexperienced but enthusiastic. Plans we recovered from the supposed physician note the existence of a secret entrance to the castle. This give us an entry point to the castle. Hurzina and Erwin spent a lot of time trying to train the rebels. I spent my days brewing poisons for the upcoming battle. I’m the only one with the knowledge needed to handle a poisoned blade safely, but I’m hoping that it will give me an edge in the battles to come.

Vorgeheim 6th

We decided it was time to reconnoitre the secret entrance, to see if it would provide us the edge we need. On our way there we encountered the ever-unpleasant Sergeant Krantz, along with a small body of men and some kind of hideous mutant that was being used as a tracking animal. Even striking from ambush we were sorely pressed, with both Kurt and Hurzina falling to lucky hits, they barely escaped with their lives. I ended up barely saving Kurt from Krantz, fortunately the Black Lotus on my blade proved more than a match for his soldier’s constitution. With our two primary warriors out of commission, we returned to the outlaw camp to recuperate.

We spent the day recovering, and I was kept busy treating the party’s wounds.

Vorgeheim 8th

We returned to investigate the cave. There were signs of mutant activity outside, but we saw nothing more of that. Further in we passed a cave full of choking spores which affected Erwin badly. Eventually we reached a staircase leading up into the castle. We briefly investigated the interior of the castle, just enough to get a sense of the layout and hatch a plan: Kurt, Hurzina and I would lead the Dwarfs into the secret passage, having some hold the barracks doors to keep most of the guard locked down while the rest of us captured the gatehouse and opened the gates. This would allow Erwin, Corvin and the Outlaws to assault the gates and reinforce us.

Vorgeheim 9th

We seized the gatehouse with little effort, and while we waited for the outlaws we investigated a nearby tower. It proved to be overrun with undead, and I was severely wounded by a wight.

Once we exited the tower, the outlaws had arrived, but so had a contingent of guards. We overcame them, but only through a hard battle. I was once again nearly killed by one of the last remaining sergeants.

Our attack on the castle a qualified success, we proceeded into the near-deserted interior of the castle. Our first destination was a Sigmarite temple that had been profoundly (and profanely) desecrated, and rededicated to Slaanesh. The temple called forth a minor daemon to defend it, but we were able to drive it off, and cast the temple’s unholy icon into the river.

Finally we approached the central manse. The horrors I saw there will last me for the rest of my days. We encountered several of the ruling family, each one a twisted abomination, physically or spiritually (or both). We did encounter a guest at the manse who was the size of a small bear and seemed awfully enthusiastic at the prospect of slaughtering his hosts. Never ones to look a gift maniac in the mouth, we invited him to join us. Our search of the manse turned up a rather disturbing letter from another member of the family in Middenheim. Apparently this brother has ominous-sounding plans for Hexentag. We will need to investigate this after our business at the castle is concluded.

Finally we reached the laboratory where the lady of the castle conducted her horrific experiments … and she has a pet werewolf. Kurt, Hurzina and our new ally did battle with the werewolf, but were quickly overpowered as the beast wouldn’t stop, even after losing both its arms. Lady Wittgenstein threw some kind of death magic at the lot of us, stunning the werewolf before it could finish Kurt and Hurzina off. As the only member of the party fully compos mentis, I dashed up the stairs to engage the witch, only for her to launch another death spell directly at me. Sigmar must have blessed me in that room, because not only did I resist the spell, but the toll of drawing so much magic overwhelmed Wittgenstien, rendering her insensible. I quickly poisoned my blade and finished her off with a coup de grace. It was at this point the beast awoke. With our temporary ally eviscerated, and the rest of the party unconscious or paralysed with rear, it charged up the stairs at me. I met it blow for blow at the top of the stairs. I missed with my first stroke, only for it to lose its footing and fell. Just as Kurt and Corvin were rushing up the stairs to aid me, I was able to kill it, poisoned steel finally ending its wretched existence.

But the dark magics released during the battle had taken their toll, and had critically affected the structure of the castle. We searched for the vessel holding the wyrdstone shard, only to discover the shard gone, and corrosive smoke blocking our path. We fled down into the caverns beneath the castle, and discovered our boat. We quickly set to, evading the full collapse of the castle by mere minutes.

Sommerzeit 30th contd

After we entered the camp we took time to talk with the outlaws. Their lives seem quite shit but at least they’re not all mutated and stuff. Turns out they a too chicken to take on the castle themselves. Damn good thing we turned up I say. We spent some time examining the map and eventually found a bolt hole in the wall that looks like it tunnels up into the castle. We spent a few days there, resting, planning and training. I sent word to the Dwarven mercs back in Nuln that a good fight was in the works. Turns out the time learning strategies is coming in handy. We agree on a plan where we enter the tunnel, fight our way to the gates and let the outlaws, led by Erwin and Corvin.

Vorgeheim 6th

We head out to the castle to scout the area. Hilda guided us and we mainly kept to the forest but not too far from road. About half hour out from the castle we came across a squad of fracking castle guards and some gods be damned ugly thing, beastman most like. They seemed to be using it as a tracking dog. Manage to duck back into the bushes out of sight and prepare an attack. Went quite well until one of the bastards got me with his halberd. Sliced my chest up good and damn near killed me. Arm is now useless until wound heals but hey at least I have a damn impressive scar, which I won’t be showing off. Damn it all.

Vorgeheim 7th

After the doc healed us up a bit but my chest still fracking sore and I ant hold we prepped and headed out again. This time there were no incidents on the way and we made it to the bolt hole. Corvin checked out the area around the entrance and spotted some messed up tracks. He reckoned they looked like tentacles. When we head into the tunnel, which I was not keen on, spent half the damn time hoping my lantern wouldn’t go out on me, we began to hear grunting animal like noises. The dark and the tunnel and those noises. Not my fracking favourite place I ever been! After what seemed like an eternity we reached a branch in the tunnels. The others chose to go left and I stuck with them. Found some skeleton remains all broken and shit. Hear a scream echo down the tunnels. Man this place gave me the heeby jeebies good and proper. Tunnel led to a large cavern, stone covered in fungi and we tried avoiding it but someone stuffed up and stepped on some. Released spoors which were nauseating and poor Irwin lost his breakfast. We chose one of the two exits and found ourselves in a much larger cavern with an underground river flowing through it. More passages, caverns, some bats. Really not sure how long it took but I am not looking forward to doing this again on the morrow! Finally we reach some very long stairs but up is always good. It ended in a featureless room, well featureless until Corvin found a hidden trap door. Lead to a ramshackle room full of beggars. The others who are far sneakier than me killed a few of them and stole their clothes. Fracking gross man, we dressed up in them to disguise and it was probably less pleasant than the whole dark tunnels shit. Made my skin crawl. Head out into the fresh air of the main courtyard and scouted it out. Noted the patrol patterns, number of guards, that sort of stuff. Returned back through the tunnels of “I hate and do not want to do this againess”. Plan is I do this again tomorrow with Doc, Kurt and the Dwarven mercs bash our way to the gates and open them for Erwin and Corvin to lead the outlaws in. Gunna need a good drink tonight.

8th Vorgeheim.

Shit morning. Looked to be a storm on the way. However, the infiltration went smoothly. 5 mercs go and secure the keep. We head to the gatehouse to open the gates. Burst into the ground floor room and damn me one of the guards had his helm off and his face is all fucked up. The sight left me thoroughly grossed out and Kurt killed him before I managed to get a grip on myself. Sure am seeing some fracked up shit hanging out with these guys. The guards in the next room had prepared for us and were hiding behind an overturned table with more damn halberds. We manage to take them out but we lost two of the mercs. We manage to get the gate open and head back to the Keep to assist the other mercs. Just in time too as the guards from the inner gatehouse had attacked them while they hold the door. Two more of my people fell before we killed the other guards. Leaving the Mercs to hold the door we headed into the strange tower on the other side of the courtyard. The tower seems to be full of walking nightmares, skeletons and a fracking Wight of all things. Kurt and I both find out selves paralyzed in fear. The Doc valiantly fought before getting knocked down badly just as Kurt recovers himself. My damn fear takes longer to overcome and by the time I managed to get hold of myself Kurt was down too. I manage to take the damned thing out. When we headed back to the courtyard we find ourselves in a pitched battle. The outlaws had just arrived as more guards had poured out of the keep. Both the Doc and Kurt, already hurt from the Wight got knocked out. But we took out their lieutenant causing the few remaining guards to run like little bitches only to be cut down. I also got myself messed up in the process. We take a few moments for some quick first aid before heading across the bridge to the main keep. The storm that had been brewing broke and it started pissing down. Main complex marked by a large manor, a big fancy glasshouse which Kurt decided would be fund to toss rocks at, a big trap with a cage above it and metal grate covering it and last but not least a temple. Erwin decides we should check out the temple first. As we open the doors we are greeted by purple fracking smoke and messed up music. Soon realised that the people inside are writhing on the floor in a rather inappropriate way. Erwin decides to start killing them while they are vulnerable. While Corvin for some reason starts dancing. Doc, Kurt and I make our way to the altar and they toss the censors the smoke coming from out the big window. We quickly come to release that the massive statue on the altar is that of Slaneesh. When we approach it a fracking demonette appears. Man this place is seriously messed up and I am never coming here again! The fracking freaky bitch attacked me, shredding my left arm real bad, still hadn’t recovered from the wound to the other arm. Am totally fucked up, can barely hold my axe when I manage to pick it up again. The others manage to seriously wound her making her vanish back to the chaos realm. We make our way to mansion. Main room set up for a banquet, but left to rot. We check the ground floor rooms. One full of stuffed animal, mutants and humans… no dwarfs thank gods. There was a man in the room rambling to himself and Corvin snuck up behind him and slits his throat. Other ground floor room full of dust and musical instruments. Head dup stairs. Long corridor with 6 doors off it. 1 room empty, another had an old noble woman and a crap tonne of mutie cats. Corvin shoots her and we quickly loot her jewellery. Next room contained a very big man in some messed up but impressive armour we hesitate and low and behold he offers his assistance in our fight. Don’t think he wants to help so much as break some skulls but that was fine with me and hope he got himself killed. The fourth room was pretty richly decorated. Clearly the lady Margeritte’s room. A door in her room lead to a tower. The first level held a library, the books while fascinating to look at I am sure would not be good reading material even if I could read. Doc finds a letter from a family member in Middenheim and reads it to us. The next level is a laboratory full of creepy stuff in jars and a big contraption in the middle of the room. The roar of the storm can be heard and Lady Margeritte is standing on the platform. A massive crash of lighting hits the thing and Margeritte lowers the wooden slab down. A werewolf leaps off and attacks us, Margeritte also attacks flinging magic at us. I was absolutely beside myself, barely able to fight and confronted with that shit. A bolt of some evil magic hits my arm knocking me out and leaving my arm a burnt mess.

Sumerziet 9th

Our hunt for the vampire began in earnest. I started by checking with local temples and my colleagues at the Physicians’ Guild. There has been a rash of strange corpses recently: small puncture wounds but killed by exsanguination with no blood around the body. The victims have all come from the slums with a clear cluster around the graveyard.

My next stop was at the university, where I looked up some of my old friends. I met with a gentlemen who specialises in Von Carstein genealogy and he is convinced that one of the Von Carsteins was buried in Nuln under an alias. I skimmed through his paper, and while it’s heavy on conjecture and light on evidence, it is something to go on.

I met up with the rest of the party, and it appears they had found other evidence pointing to the graveyard near the slums. We decided to check with the local college of magic for final corroboration. What we found was much more disturbing. According to the acolyte we met with (which was then confirmed by no less than the patriarch-in-residence) I have an unstable magical aura, making me a danger to everyone around me! I have no choice, I must receive training in magic to avoid spreading chaos everywhere I go. I’ve never look at wizards with anything but suspicion, but this is as clear a sign as a pronouncement from Sigmar himself. I need to receive the basics of magical training in the next few days, and then receive enough to become a full wizard the next time we are in Altdorf.

Sumerzeit 10th

We investigated the graveyard in the morning, early but well after dawn. Our search led us to a mausoleaum bearing the legend “Ser Cain Van Honst”, an obvious anagram for Hans Von Carstein. So now we knew for certain … we were hunting a cliché.

We checked with the Stevedores Guild. After a little of Handrich’s persuasion they revealed that a number of man-sized boxes had been delivered to 10 houses around Nuln. In one of them we found Von Carstein asleep, and slew him, though Corvin nearly died.

Sumerzeit 11th – 28th

For several days I studied the fundamentals of sensing and shaping magic, but I still lack the power and knowledge necessary to actually cast spells. Once I was judged safe, we headed to Wittgendorf by river, stopping in Grissenwold on the 20th to resupply.

Sumerzeit 29th

We met an outgoing boat on our approach. They warned us against proceeding, showing us a body they recovered from the river. It was … unspeakably mutated, barely recognisable as human. I wrote an examination report for them to take to Nuln, that should prevent another physician having to look at it at least.

The village was utterly devastated, beggars are everywhere and the only signs of prosperity were the guards (who stayed at the castle) and the local physician, who invited us to dinner tomorrow. I’ll be keen to hear what he thinks is causing the malady afflicting this village.

We searched the local temple of Sigmar, a littler-strewn wreck. In a records room (locked to prevent looting), we discovered that this region was fertile and prosperous up until 100 years ago, which coincides with the arrival of the wyrdstone. Even then, the region managed to carry on until 2 years ago when a storm of black rain covered the land.

In the catacombs beneath the temple, Kurt recovered a magical sword.

Sumerziet 30th

The deplorable conditions of this village are beginning to tax me. I saw a baby today that was so badly mutated it looked to be half-spider. We visited the village’s only inn, and discovered that a letter had been dispatched to me from the Nuln Physicians’ Guild. My bother physicians charged me with investigating the local doctor, apparently they are suspicious of his cure-all. Their suspicions proved all too prescient – when I examined some of it, it proved to be nothing by a placebo, and some unknown substance that reacted to my magical sight. On closer inspection, it appeared to be wyrdstone! This manaic has been poisoning people! I dispatched a report to Nuln immediately by pigeon, they must be warned!

That night we set out for dinner, I have to confront this monster. As we departed our boat was seized by the local guards, this bodes ill indeed. At the doctor’s residence Erwin, Corvin and I investigated while Kurt and Hurzina stood guard in case we needed help. I recovered papers that proved the local lady has been supplying wyrdstone dust to the “doctor”, I’ll send them to Nuln once we recover the boat.

I don’t recall much of dinner. The food was drugged, and I nearly passed out. Once I recovered my wits, Hurzina and Kurt told me they prevented The lady and her guards from kidnapping us. A local vilager escorted us to a local outlaw camp so we could train and prepare to end this menace once and for all.

Sommerzeit 9th

We began investigating the disappearances in Nuln that the Priest of Mors had alerted us to. Corvin was intrigued due to the suspicion of vampires being responsible. We split up to find out more about the disappearances. We headed to the local watch first and found out that people have been going missing from the slum area of Nuln more so than normal and that several bodies had been fished out of the river with bite marks and empty of blood. The others headed to the temples, physicians guild and other such places while I headed to the mercenaries guild. Alas I did not find out much as upon arrival I began to talk to several dwarven mercs and my love of ale resulted in much drinking and talking but they did not know much about the situation. I managed to head back to the boat before passing out.

Sommerzeit 10th

The others advised that they had found clues leading to the graveyard. We head out to investigate the area and after several hours of snooping around the Doctor notices that one of the mausoleums has a name that spells out Hans Von Carstein but the letters were all jumbled, the doctor called it an anamamgram or some bloody fancy sounding word. That name is one everyone knows of when it comes to vampires. We break into the crypt and find that it had been emptied Corvin’s skill and snooping unearthed a business card for a porter of the Stevedores guild. With that titbit we headed to the stevedores guild and with the helping hand of a 10 silver bribe they were most helpful and supplied us with the locations to which they had taken several large crates from the mausoleum. With the list of addresses in hand we headed to investigate the houses. The first two are empty but for a large crate with nothing in it. At the third property we locate in the cellar another of the large crates however upon opening it we find a very well preserved looking corpse of a richly dressed man. Corvin suspected that the corpse was in fact a vampire and after dipping a wooden stake in holy water and rubbing garlic on it he tried miserably to pound it into the corpse’s chest. I took the hammer from him and tired a great deal more successfully to drive the stake in. Unfortunately it would appear that the corpse was indeed a vampire. Alas the fracking stake idea rather than banishing it the stake merely awoke and angered it causing the bloody beast to attack us. We fought it and succeeded in killing the beast with Kurt striking a final powerful blow severing its head from its body causing the body to crumple to ash. Unfortunately we took some wounds the worst of which was suffered by Corvin who was damned near killed but somehow avoided fatal wounds. The head remained intact and we took it back to the priest of Mors.

Sommerzeit 11-15th

The doctor has spent the past few days up at the college of mages training. Apparently he has some magical talent. Here’s hoping he doesn’t go crazy on us. I took the spare time to visit my uncle and to also honour my siblings’ graves. I wish they were still living and miss them dearly.

Sommerzeit 16-19th

We began to head upriver toward Wittgendorf continuing my companions’ quest.

Sommerzeit 20th

We reached Grissenwald and stopped briefly for the doctor to ply his trade and to resupply before heading on.

Sommerzeit 21st – 28th

We continued the trip to Wittgendorf with nothing of note occurring.

Sommerzeit 29th

As we approach Wittgendorf we are greeted by the site of the castle looming up from the cliffs of the river. There is little other river traffic but the one other boat we see steers over to us, shouting warnings. We discourage Corvin from trying to put crossbow bolts in them before hearing them out. I keep the boat steady while the other go aboard they warn us that the castle is evil and that we shouldn’t stop there. Apparently they had a corpse of a mutated human on board that they had fished out of the river. We thanked them for the warning but advised that we had business there that could not be put off. I steered the boat to the jetty, the damn thing looked close to falling apart and littered with shit. As we docked a group of fracking beggars came a begging. They were all munched looking however the soft hearted doc threw out some pennies that soon saw them off fighting among themselves. We made our way up the dirt track to the town. As we approached the town we came across a mob of beggars surrounding guards with the Wittgenstein symbol who in turn surrounded a pretty human woman on a god damn white horse… man white horses give me the heeby jeebies. One of the beggars was on the ground looking pretty well smashed up. Another local saw us and shouted for help which earned him a beating and being dragged off by the guards. Doc tries to stabilise wounded beggar. The locals all look pretty beat up, missing limbs and other body parts, starved. Town seems pretty fracked up. Buildings all look run down except for one flash house. As we approach the occupant introduces himself as Jean Rousseau, the local physician. He invites the doc and us for dinner tomorrow. We continue to look around and end up in the run down temple. Place is deserted but quite pretty. All its walls were covered in frescoes and the roof covered in script all speaking of Sigmar. On the altar a book and a key sat on it untouched. The priest’s room and kitchen were both ransacked. A door off the kitchen looked as though someone had tried to claw their way in but it was soundly locked still. We used the key from the altar to open the door revealing a library of some sort which the Doc and Corvin disappeared into reading. I had never seen so many books. I do wish I could read their contents. Mainly local records apparently. About 100 years ago things started going wrong when some noble ass called Dagmar Von Wittgenstein, the one the others had spoken of back at the signal tower, came back from his journey presumably with the warp stone. Got worse 2 years ago, people and things started mutating. We all go back to the main chamber when Kurt bellows out he had found a trap door beneath the altar. I refuse to go into the darkness below. My damn cowardliness is shameful but I really hate small dark places! I stood on guard for some time before they came back. Kurt was bearing a very nice dwarven sword. I recognised the runes as those of my people but cannot understand them. They told me that the crypts below were all desecrated bar the one that Kurt found the sword in which had belonged to templar. A tunnel had led them to the graveyard which was similarly desecrated. We returned to the boat for the night.

Sommerzeit 30th

Head back to village. When we arrive the Doctor is approached by a haggard young woman who asks him to look at her baby. He appears shocked when he sees it and tells her there is nothing he can do. The poor thing was mutated severely apparently. As we head further into the township we see a two headed sheep being chased by a pack of beggars. Corvin shoots the damned thing and it is quickly fallen upon by the beggars. We head to the inn, called the shooting star. Looks pretty run down. Only people inside are the innkeeper and a couple of locals. As we approach the bar the innkeeper says he has a letter for a Sigric, the Doc steps forward to take the letter. Apparently the physicians guild wants him to check out the local doctor, think he may be some sort of charlatan. The locals refuse to discuss the castle at all. Fat lot of help these people are, but they do tell us that Dr Rousseau has a miracle cure. Doctor obtains some of this “cure” and we head back to boat so he can examine it. As evening approached we headed back to town to have dinner with the Dr Rousseau. As we leave the boat we are accosted by a bunch of god damned castle guards. The bastards confiscated our boat due to unpaid fees. Head up to the house now short a boat. Kurt and I stand watch outside, after since we don’t trust the physician we decided to carry everyone’s weapons for them just in case. After some time a carriage draws up with the lady who we saw when we first arrived and four guards. To post themselves with us and the other to go inside with miss high and mighty. The guards smell like ass and death. A few moments later the guards go inside. Kurt and I follow them and find the Doctor all dopey and Corvin and Erwin out cold. Two guards had picked the later up and when they saw us and legged it. The other two guards try to block us. Fraking bastards. We draw weapons and take them out and chase down the others. They drop our friends and run for the carriage. We let them go and take Corvin and Erwin back inside. We manage to rouse the Doc. He tells us of a secret room in the Physicians office. We check it out and find a mutilated and mutated corpse covered in flies. The Doc looks through the jars and quickly decides its best we leave. As we exit the house a local woman called Hilda offers us shelter with a band of outlaws in the forest. The dark seems even scarier than normal as we head into the twisted black woods. Screams and howls echo around us. Hilda tells us to hurry. Suddenly we seem to cross a barrier. The woods equally dark and creepy suddenly seem more normal and moments later enter the camp.

Sigmarzeit 19 - Sumerzeit 8

Sigmarzeit 19th

We buried Merriella today. I couldn’t help her and now she is in Sigmar’s care. The dwarves had just finished the tower and their sergeant, Hurzina volunteered to join our group. We could always do with another talented warrior in the party (and one skilled with boats no less), so we welcomed her into our company. Reading through Atalka notes it would seem that she and Ernst served a cult of the Changer of the Ways, but a separate one to the purple robed cultists that have been pursuing us. Wheels within wheels … what else can one expect for the Architect of Fate?

Having completed our task, we set out for Nuln, by way of Kemperbad and Grissenwold.

Sigmarzeit 20th – 26th

Passed without incident. Hurzina proved to be very capable with the boat, and Erwin scouted along the shore on his new horse.

Sigmarzeit 27th -29th

We arrived in Kemperbad, and resupplied. We have passed through this town so many times in the past 2 months that I have nothing else to say about it. We set out for Grissenwold on the 29th.

Sigmarzeit 30th – My birthday

I turned 36 today, and as we head toward the city I have called home for almost all of my time in exile, I am left thinking about how much has changed for me. While I have left the calling of the seminary behind me, I fell that I have come to serve Sigmar in another way. Whatever these cultists are up to, they must be stopped, and if I can help achieve that I can be confident I am following a righteous path. Walking away from the priesthood has left me thinking more about my life back in Estallia. I don’t know who framed me or why, but I want to find out. I called Duke De Marco a friend once, and I would like to do so again, and perhaps I could even see my Maria once again.

Sigmarzeit 31st – Sumerzeit 3rd

Another month turns, but our journey remains uneventful.

Sumerzeit 4th

We arrived in Grissenwold, a miserable village full of drunken dwarfs (a remarkable sight in its self). The local villagers have been suffering frequent raids, and they believe the dwarfs are responsible. Since Atalka has connections to this village, we decided to investigate. We met with the dwarfs, and they denied any connection to the raids. I’m no stranger to deception, and they seemed to be honest about the innocence. Apparently they used to own the mine before Atalka took it over. There seemed to be some lingering bitterness there, but I couldn’t work out why.

The farms were being raided in a fairly clear pattern, so we set an ambush at the next likely target. Sure enough it was raided that night, by goblins. Hurzina, Kurt and Corvin saw them off handily, and we collected plenty of evidence that goblins were to blame, thus exonerating the dwarfs, no one could believe that dwarfs and goblins would work together.

Sumerzeit 5th

We met the dwarfs again, showing them the proof we collected. When we announced our intention to assault the mine, they hired us out a few of their warriors.

On the way we found a dwarf, nearly dead from arrow trauma and blood loss. I was able to stabilise him, and we brought him with us, so I could monitor his condition.

We investigated a tower just outside the mine, rescuing 2 humans and a halfling chef. We also encountered a group of goblins, including one who had taken to wearing Atalka’s clothing, a sight I shall not soon forget. His unusual mode of dress proved no protection and our extended party quickly cut him down. We discovered a range of jewellery and other riches, and it seemed only fair we looted Atalka’s possessions after all she took from us.

Sumerzeit 6th – 7th

Our work done, we set out for Nuln, for a brief resupply before going to investigate the castle.

Sumerzeit 8th

Almost 4 months after I left, I find myself back in Nuln. We sold our cargo of luxuries and picked up a load of Iron, for our trip back up the river. I bought a set of pigeons for Estallia, in the hope I can open communications with the De Marcos.

Corvin caught rumours of vampire activity, and we agreed to investigate.

Hurzina’s log

Sigmarzeit 19th The humans who had fought the crazed sorceress bitch buried their fallen halfing companion. My uncle and his workforce have almost totally completed the signal tower and after witnessing the horrendous fight the day before i requested leave to join these adventurers who seem to be fighting to stop evil. My Uncle was unhappy with this decision but respected my need to find meaningful battle to bring honour to my family. Hell who knows, perhaps with all the crazy shit they seem to get up to i might even find that damned heirloom we lost a while back (I had sat down with the shady seeming human called Corvin – he seems to be fascinated with my people, and he told me something of their encounters so far). Having gained Uncle’s okay I requested that they allow me to join them. The Doctor seemed quite happy to have me along since i know something of boats. We headed for Nuln. Apparently we will be visiting Kemperbad and Grissenwold on the way. Sigmarzeit 20th – 26th Rather uneventful travel, i managed to keep the river boat afloat and the short human, Erwin (same height as me almost, what a shrimp, nice guy though) took up position as our outrider on his horse and we encountered no one. Sigmarzeit 27th -29th safely arrived in Kemperbad. We resupplied and the tall strange looking human called Kurt and Corvin picked up weapons from a dwarevn smith they had apparently put downpayments on when they were last hear. Haven’t spent much time in Kemperbad and other than the interesting system of lifts not much to note. Left for Grissenwold on the 29th. Sigmarzeit 30th – Sumerzeit 3rd Apparently was the Doctors birthday on the 30th. Not much else to say, just more river travel. Sumerzeit 4th Arrived in Grissenwold, a small village in which several dwarves are living. We met some of them at the inn, quite drunk, even for one of my kind. After a few tense moments in which a fight seemed likely, i managed to get some information from them. It seems frequent raids have been occurring in the area, and the stupid local humans believe the dwarfs are responsible. My new companions we decided to investigate i quite happily agreed to help clear the dwarves honour, though the others were more interested in the fact that the crazy sorceress woman Atalka had lived here. We went to the encampment where the dwarves were living, i was quite amused by my human companions reaction to entering the smoke filled lodgings and as expected the dwarves professed innocence. The reason they were dwelling near the village was that they had sold their mine nearby to Atalka and she had booted them out. They were not happy with the whole situation even though it seems they had made a clear choice to sell. After a brief discussion we decided to head out and to set up an ambush at what was likely to be the next target that night. I was uneasy about being out in the evening with dark approaching. the raiders turned out to be a bunch of filthy goblins riding wolves which i was more than happy to eliminate. Corvin proved himself a masterful shot with his crossbow taking out several of the nasty critters. As it turned out i did not need to worry about the dark since some of the bastards set the barn on fire. The Doctor, Corvin and Short ass almost got themselves toasted while Kurt and I got to breaking some Gobbo skulls. Killed a few before the miserable cowards fled. We managed to take a few more down as they ran. Sumerzeit 5th Upon acquiring the proof that the dwarves were not responsible, a fact which i never doubted we returned to their village and advised them of the same. Their gratitude was shown by an offer of assistance in our plan to search the mine and sorceress bitch’s tower however as they asked for pay so we only took 3 of them. On the way we found a dwarf, who was near death Doctor managed to stabilise him, and we brought him with us to keep him from being attacked again. When we reached the mine entrance we found the solitary tower. Upon investigation we found it had been trashed by filthy bloody goblins. We did find two humans and a halfling cook who had survived the goblin occupation. On the upper levels we encountered a group of goblins. One of the crazed blighters was wearing crazy bitch’s clothing. Who woulda thought Goblins could be fracking crossdressers! We quickly disposed of the horrid thing and set about looting and in the process discovered a range of jewellery. Sumerzeit 6th – 7th Having cleared my fellow dwarves of wrong doing and aided m new companions in their searches, we headed to Nuln with the plan of selling the cargo the humans had acquired and resupplying before they continued their quest.. Sumerzeit 8th Arrived in Nuln. While the other’s picked up a cargo of Iron I visited my uncle who had just returned from the newly built signal tower.

Phlugzeit 28th

We arrived in Kemperbad today. We sold our cargo of timber and bought a cargo of luxuries for the trip to Nuln. I was able to use my share of the profits to send a money order to my parents, enough to clear their debts. I’ve reached my goal, the reason I left Nuln in the first place. But I can’t go back to the academy yet, not after what I’ve seen. These cultists would bring ruin to the Empire and by Sigmar I won’t rest until they’ve been cast down!

Alas, the rest of the day did not go as well. Kurt got into an altercation with yet another purple cultist and managed to get the lot of us arrested! I will have to remind Master Boehm of the value of discretion the next time I am treating his wounds.

Phlugzeit 29th

We departed for the Barren Hills by way of Twin Falls, but not before Kurt had a lock of his hair stolen. At least we didn’t get arrested this time.

Phlugzeit 30th – Sigmarzeit 1st

Our journey to Twin Falls was rough, the boat sustained minor damage, but otherwise uneventful.

Sigmarzeit 2nd

We arrived in Twin Falls. The locals said we should talk to a local druid by the name of Corrobreth. Apparently he’s an expert on the local geography, and lives in Unterbaum, a nearby village.

Sigmarzeit 3rd

We set out for Unterbaum overland, crossing the Narn river. Corrobreth identified the location on our map as Devil’s Bowl and agreed to guide us into the Barren Hills by canoe.

Sigmarzeit 4th – 5th

We canoed up the Narn River toward Devil’s Bowl.

Sigmarzeit 6th

We arrived at Devil’s Bowl just in time to camp for the night. Around midnight Kurt awoke us, there was the ghost of a murdered woman before us. She led us to her body, telling a tale of betrayal – she was part of an expedition to recover a shard of Morrslieb, but the wizard leading the party (a Dagnar von Wittgenstein), killed them all and stole the shard.

While we were giving the bodies a proper burial, we were ambushed by beastmen, though these held the aspect of a rat, rather than the more common goat. Naturally this set Kurt off about the “skaven” he’s constantly ranting about, despite my attempts to explain to him that they were simply a Tilean myth. Erwin was nearly killed, but we were able to defeat them. Further into the caves we encountered a small band of skeletons, and one of them held the key to the secret room in the signal tower. Having found out all we could, we resolved to return to the tower as quickly as possible.

Sigmarzeit 7th – 17th

We returned to Unterbaum, then Kemperbad and finally the signal tower. I was greatly anticipating what we would find there.

Sigmarzeit 18th

What we found was books … and death. While we were loading the latter onto our boat, the former arrived on a white horse. The Lady Atalka tried to bluff us into handing over our boat, and when I met her prevarications head on she responded with magic. I was gravely wounded by a volley of magical darts, and I quickly sought cover on the boat. Atalka summoned arrows, fire and daemons before Corvin and Erwin could bring her down, and even then she escaped somehow. But it was all too late for poor dear Merriella, who was torn to shreds by a daemon. May Sigmar keep her soul.

16 – 27 Phlugzeit

Phlugzeit 16th

We set out for Nuln, via Grissenwold and Kemperbad.

Phlugzeit 17th

Kurt thought he saw someone following us, but I couldn’t see anything. Kurt was probably just drinking again.

Phlugzeit 18th

We passed the fortress of Reiksguard without incident.

Phlugzeit 19th

It seems Kurt was less inebriated than I thought, there are definitely two people following us. Corvin hit one with a well-placed shot and they fled.

Phlugzeit 21st

We approached a half-built Semaphore tower. A group of dwarf engineers are constructing it under Imperial Commission, but several of them seemed awfully keen to leave. The foreman explained that several of the team had died over the past few days, the recent victims show signs of being poisoned by something with man-sized claws. We agreed to defend the crew until the threat could be found, or their work was complete. We stood guard that night, but we saw nothing.

Phlugzeit 22nd

Kurt and Erwin scouted the woods and encountered a Halfling vampire hunter. If that wasn’t improbable enough, he went by the moniker of Halfhelsing. He was tracking a vampire and it’s possible it was responsible for the dead engineers. The prospect of fighting a dread creature like a vampire is more than a little daunting, but I’m reassured by the presence of a professional vampire hunter, even if he is slightly deranged.

We were attacked that night. The vampire was a twisted nightmare, it killed Halfhelsing without so much as a word, it and its ghoulish ally hurt Kurt and I badly. The vampire proved vulnerable to fire, and some quick thinking by Merriella drove it away. We pursued the ghoul down into a secret chamber below the old ruin. There we encountered a pack of zombies – it seems they had nothing to do with the vampire. Ultimately we prevailed, but my left arm was broken.

It turns out there was a necromancer’s laboratory beneath the ruins. It contained a set of notes with some astrological significance, but I can’t make any sense of them.

Phlugzeit 23rd – 24th

The dwarf foreman paid us for our efforts, and we decided to spend a couple of days resting. I was able to set my arm well enough to make sure it will heal cleanly in 2 weeks or so. I read through the journal and it seems there’s some type of mystical convergence at Wisserberg. Something evil lurks there, and I have to find out what it is.

Phlugzeit 25th – 27th

We left the signal tower and headed on to Kemperbad. The journey was blessedly uneventful. We should arrive in Kemperbad tomorrow.

6 – 15 Phlugzeit

The Journal of Sigric Vogel, Student and Adventurer:

Phlugzeit 6th

We continued to rest and recuperate on Josef’s boat as we headed back toward Weissbruck, the day was uneventful, save for passing Castle Ravensburg.

Phlugzeit 7th

We encountered another riverboat foundered on the bank. We decided to investigate, and discovered the crew had been killed by mutants. We killed them, but I nearly had my arm torn off by an abomination with tentacles in place of arms. I survived by Sigmar’s grace alone. Kurt and Corvin upgraded their armour, allowing me to pick up a spare mail shirt; hopefully I’ll be less vulnerable in future encounters.

We discovered a peddler aboard the ship, as well as a cargo of wool. We resolved to take over the riverboat for now, in accordance with maritime law.

Phlugzeit 8th

Josef gave us a brief tutorial on operating a riverboat, and we bade him farewell. I’ll miss the old sot, but I don’t think he’ll miss the trouble we’ve brought to his boat.

Phlugzeit 9th

We arrived in Weissbruck at about noon and sold our cargo of wool. Merriella wanted to visit Elvyra, the merchant she met at the Schaffenfest. Apparently the merchant deal in shady goods and Merriella wants access to her network. I can’t say I’m happy about this, but Merriella’s criminal contacts were valuable in Bogenhafen, and we need all the help we can get.

When we arrived at Elvyra’s cottage, we discovered she was gone, and there were signs of a struggle. Inside we found Elvyra’s housekeeper, a young girl who told us her mistress had been kidnapped. Presumably this related to some underworld dispute, but we could hardly leave the poor woman to her fate, even if she is partially responsible for her own fate. We resolved to track her kidnappers down and rescue her.

After inquiring at a local inn, we found her abductors in a barn north of the town. I hid at a distance while the other snuck closer. Once the fight I was joined, I ran in. Kurt, and Erwin were sorely pressed at first, but they recovered and managed to dispatch the thugs in a truly brutal fashion. It’s moments like this that make me wish I drank. Elvyra was beaten up, but largely uninjured, so we returned to her cottage for the night.

Phlugzeit 10th

We spent the day recovering from our battle last night. Meanwhile Merriella learned the rudiments of the Fence’s trade.

Elvyra explained she was kidnapped by a crime syndicate that made demands of her she would not honour. It would seem there is some honour among thieves.

Phlugzeit 11th – 12th

We picked up a cargo of timber and set off for Altdorf.

Phlugzeit 13th

We arrived in Altdorf, Kurt collected his allowance, and had a bizarre run in with a group that I assume is affiliated with some kind of chaos cult, but they ran before we could question them. I purchased a set of physician’s tools, and the others shopped for weapons.

Phlugzeit 14th – 15th

I applied to the Altdorf Physician’s Guild, and spent two days following a physician at work. At the end of this time I passed the examination. I am now licensed to practice medicine throughout Reikland!

We agreed to travel to Wisserburg, I want to find out what nefarious activities are occurring there.

Corvin’s Recount

7th pflugzeit now fully recuperated from my wound apparently I was thrown across the warehouse by the daemon which explains why I felt like a slab of well tenderised meat. We came across another boat that looked like it had been abandoned. we found the remains of the crew seconds before being attacked by some mutants we killed them without to much hassle fancy was nice enough to lend me his bow. We searched the holds of the boat and found a new crossbow for me aswell as a new set of armour… oh and a stowaway but due to maritime law we had control of the boat and its cargo untill we could find its owner so loudmouth taught us how to not sink a boat and we went our seperate ways.

pflugzeit 9th we arrived in weissbruck and sold the cargo(gotta love maritime law)shorty kept jabbering about something so we followed along, once we got where she was leading we found no-one was home but it looked like shorty’s friend had been taken searched the house and found a little girl who told us that her mistress had been kidnapped, so us being such good folk and what not decided that we would rescue this woman.

we asked around and found out where she might be hidden. we got to the barn close to dark so everyone except ponsy snuck up and had a poke around fancy a ugly snuck around the back and me and shorty went in the front I shot the first guard in the head and he died without making a sound. shorty exploded the other guys arm (what the hell rocks does she use)after the we mad eour way up to help fancy and ugly once we got there fancy treated us to a shower of blood (I’m getting him to clean my gear if he keeps that up) as he somehow removed the poor buggers head with a dagger .. with just one swipe I finished of the other guy but cutting him in half (cant have a fancy bugger upstaging me) showering the party in another lot of gore. so looking like a butcher who had the shakes while working we rescued shorty’s friend and she was good enough to provide us with a meal and well needed baths aswell as a place to sleep for the night…. gory day

pflugzeit 10th Hung around while ponsy fixed everyone up and shorty muttered things to her friend shorty seems a bit shifty but hey she smells of pies so who am I to judge.

pflugzeit 11th got ourselves a new cargo of wood MORE FREAKING SPLINTERS

Pflugzeit 12-13 mad our way to altdorf some shifty looking guys put some purple crap on ugly guess they decided he needed more colour.

pflugzeit 14-15 hung around altdorf so ponsy could get his doctorin permit then we set out for wisserburg after I got my self a sweet new axe its had the top spike removed to its easier to carry and the blade has an extra weight of steel in it so it bites deeper not to mention the haft is solid oak with a lacquer coating and the handle is shark skin over a rope binding so my hand wont slip and it has a woolen tassle above the handle to absorb the blood…. its so beautiful.

Pflugzeit 4

The Journal of Sigric Vogel, Student and Adventurer:

The Plot Thickens

Magerius came to talk to us after the lunch. Apparently he has finally discovered his conscience and told us what dire acts have befallen this town. He wanted to use the dark arts to gain wealth and power, but it seems he is unwilling to pay the price – a human sacrifice will be made tonight at a new temple. He can’t give us the location yet, but he will get back to us this afternoon.

Sure enough, a servant of Magerius arrived later to invite us to his house. We promptly attended, but on arrival discovered he had been brutally murdered shortly before we arrived. Magerius had left us a final note which Merriella adroitly realised was the location of the ritual: Warehouse 13 (or possibly 17, it’s hard to say). We also discovered a letter from an Etelka Hagen, who is a fellow practitioner of forbidden arts, but that will have to wait.

Unfortunately the servant (who proved to be incorporeal somehow) took us to be the killers and called for the watch. We only just escaped.

Hunted!

Our escape form the constabulary was fraught with danger. I barely escaped with my life from an encounter with a watchman. I really need to develop my combat skills, or get better armour, or both.

Eventually we escaped our pursuers, only to enter a chase of a different nature. We discovered another doppelganger of Kurt! That one such person could exist stretches credibility enough, but three? Dark forces are at work, here but I’ve come to expect that in this accursed town. It seems he was framing Kurt for arson. We caught up with him, only to have him walk through a solid wall! We fled the mob chasing this imitation Kurt just in time, though now it seems we’re wanted for murder and arson.

I can scarcely believe the things I am writing, and I saw them with my own eyes. It is though the whole of Bogenhafen were caught in the grip of the Ruinous Powers, warping and twisting it like a cat playing with a mouse. Sigmar servo nos!

The Ritual

We saw no one on our way to the docks, it seems the townsfolk had finally worked out that there was nothing amusing about chaos descending on their homes. Warehouse 17 proved locked and uninhabited, we left before any guards or watch could turn up.

Warehouse 13 proved to be more promising, there was a space cleared, most likely for the ritual. Erwin hid outside in the mist, while the rest of us concealed ourselves among thre crates in the warehouse.

After a few hours the Ordo arrived with a bound and gagged thief, it seems she was to be the sacrifice. Just as the leader was about to strike, Corvin took his shot. It should have struck true, but some force partially deflected it. We rushed to the attack and then all the hells broke loose at once. One of the Ordo was a daemon in disguise, both it and the cult leader (probably Councillor Teugen, but they were all wearing hoods) wielded terrible magics and the daemon had the strength of 10 men. Kurt was struck down by dark magic and Corvin was nearly broken in half by the daemon, losing his crossbow and getting thrown across the room like a rag doll.

The situation looked grim until the stroke of midnight. It seems that the time to complete the ritual had elapsed and the dark powers they served demanded payment. Johannes was consumed in a cloud of dark smoke and the daemon was returned to the vile pit from whence he came. So ends all those who treat with the powers of chaos.

Escape

We fled the warehouse, so as to avoid the watch, doubtless the incompetents would blame us for this as well, Corvin and Kurt had to be carried as they were still unconscious. When we arrived at Josef’s boat it was guarded by a couple of watchmen, but we dispatched them quickly with Josef’s assistance. One of them died by my hand, the first man I have killed. It’s truly a shame that I had to kill an honest watchman simply because of a misunderstanding, may Sigmar guard his soul.

I have resolved to spend the next few days reading the daemonology text we recovered from Teugen. While exposing myself to such a work places my soul in jeopardy, I fear I have no choice. I’m no warrior like Kurt and Corvin, and I have no talent for stealth like Merriella, nor the ranged abilities of Erwin. My contribution to our band so far has been my talent for first aid and the knowledge I have acquired in my studies. But I don’t have any knowledge of forbidden arts, and yet we have encountered 2 daemons in 4 days. Knowledge may be the only weapon I can wield against such creatures and I must arm myself, whatever the cost. I need to understand what the Ordo was doing, and whether anyone else is attempting the same thing.

Corvin’s Recount

4th pflugzeit (after lunch) extra ponsy came to have a chat with us after lunch seems he was scheming but got the willies and decided to come clean, told us about some meeting they were having tonight didnt say where tho. later on his servant came to escort us to his masters house but when we got there we found extra ponsy or at least the body that used to be him shorty found a note saying warehouse 13 or maybe 17 didnt have time to make sure sodding watch turned up so we bolted… got more fricking splinters as I went over the fence.

watchmen caught up to us only once but I remained unhurt dont know about the others tho they were quite far behind me, as it turns out I’m REALLY good at running. After shaking the watch we found another guy who looks like ugly this time he was being chased by some pissed off mob so we chased him and the mob chased us. we caught up the second ugly only to have him walk backwards through a wall after a few failed attempts at trying to repeat his feat we decided to leg it since the mob might catch us.

we made it to the warehouses after dark this time there was no-one in the street warehouse 17 was shut up tight but 13 was unlocked so we went in and found some drawings on the ground, didn’t take us long to realise that this was the right place. Shorty, ponsy, ugly and I hid inside while fancy waited outside it wasn’t long before a bunch of rich looking buggers turned up and got dressed in some white robes (that wont hide the blood well chuckles) they had some wench tied up in the middle of their ground picture they all started muttering and going on and just as they head honcho was about to stab the woman I shot him, but the damn bolt seemed to slow down before it hit him. At that point all hell broke loose another sodding daemon turned up and started going apeshit and one of the white hoods starts flinging fire balls around the place one of them hit me and hrgfv rugg tiubv trih and I got set on fire and lost my cross bow, I managed to put myself out but then the daemon jumped up a struck me. I must have blacked out because the next thing I remembered was seeing ponsy stab a guard and then we were on loud mouths boat again… this was not a fun day at all …. except for lunch

Pflugzeit 1 - 4

Aubentag, Pflugzeit 1st

We returned to our inn in the morning (the innkeeper was understandably reluctant to admit us last night). When we did we discovered that the goblin was caught some time after we entered the sewers in a warehouse. This either means there were two three-legged goblins in this town, or there is something strange going on here.

Erwin was badly beaten up after the encounter with the daemon, but somehow he survived. I must admit I’m finding it quite gratifying patching up my comrades, it helps make up for my limited combat skills. Perhaps I should consider a career in medicine?

Our inquiries around the town proved fruitless. The Verenian temple library held little of value, no one official was willing to exchange much more than pleasantries, and the only one seemed at all concerned that there were mutants and daemons rampaging around under the town was the judge at the festival court. And he fell ill. Merriella and Erwin tell me it looked like some kind of black magic; I suppose I should see for myself. Apparently he was muttering “Ordo Septimus” to himself, most mysterious.

Morrslieb has grown large, too large for this season. And there is some kind of face appearing on its surface. Something very dark is at work here.

Marktag, Pflugzeit 2nd

I took a look at the stricken judge. It’s definitely a form of magical brain fever, we alerted the local physicians, but they lack the ingredients. Apparently Bogenhafen has a history with this disease, a notable merchant scion died of it some years ago, but it was never diagnosed. The “Ordo Septimus” is apparently a local merchant consortium, but their modus operandi seems very sucpicious.

Morrslieb looks worse, it preys on my mind, this is unnatural and nothing associated with the Chaos Moon bodes well for Sigmar-fearing men.

Backertag, Pflugzeit 3rd

The “Ordo Septimus” held a secret meeting tonight, Curt, Corvin and I went to check it out, it looked like a pretty standard secret society meeting from what little we could see.

Morrslieb looks larger and, more evil than last night, and that scarcely seems possible. Why is there no panic? Why aren’t the public fleeing? I fear we will see Mordheim come again, but none of these foolish townsmen seem at all worried!

Bezahltag, Pflugzeit 4th

The Schaffenfest came to an end today, and Friedrich Magerius invited us to lunch! Apparently this whole “Ordo Septimus” issue is just a misunderstanding! The popinjay spun some story about the order being a legitimate merchant consortium which relies on secrecy to maintain its cohesion, but I’m not buying it, his order is nothing more than a chaos cult, or perhaps they are just dupes for some other eminence grise, but either way they are not to be trusted, it was all I could do to avoid denouncing him on the spot. Not that it would do any good, this whole town and its leadership are tainted.

Corvin’s Recount

1st pflugzeit we went back to the inn after spending a night washing the smell of other peoples excrement of ourselves apparently someone else caught the three legged gobbo, but I think someones lying so they don’t have to pay us but we will see about that.

we had a look around town but didnt find out anything really interesting but the moon is getting bigger ponsy keeps muttering/shouting that the moon is going to eat us…. quite excitable that chap but kinda funny tho and he keeps the surplus holes stitched up.

2nd pflugzeit ponsy had a poke around at the judge sccribbled stuff down, talked some gibberesh and kept muttering about the moon eating us … fun day

3rd pflugzeit went to spy on the meeting being held by the “ordo sumthing or other” .... nothing happened got splinters from climbing a fence… not so fun day

4th pflugzeit some extra ponsy guy offered us breakfast today said something about the “ordo” being just a innocent group of merchants, this sound like a load of horse apples to me but he did buy us a nice meal and the cutlery was real metal none of that wooden stuff that made is extra suspicious too bloody rich by a half he’s up to something without a doubt.

Arrival in Bogenhafen

Sigric: Josef’s boat arrived in Bogenhafen just in time for the start of the Schaffenfest. After accepting our pay, we split up to explore Bogenhafen and find the lawyers that held the inheritance of Kurt’s doppelganger.

Kurt, Corvin and I went to the local courthouse, only to find it closed for business; a magistracy pro tempore had been set up at the festival. Merriella’s exploration of local merchants failed to locate them either. I enquired at a local banking establishment, but once again our inquiries were fruitless. This was suspicious, given that one would expect moneylender to be familiar with the local legal firms. We checked with the printers who created the notice and their description of the client (while vague) was broadly consistent with Adolphus, the malefactor we dispatched a few days ago. It seems increasingly likely that this “inheritance” was merely a way of drawing Kurt’s look-alike to Bogenhafen, though to what end I couldn’t say.

With our initial foray into Bogenhafen a failure, we repaired to the Drunken Fish, a local drinking establishment where Erwin was testing whether copious alcohol could erase his memories of this town.

The Schaffenfest: Day 1

Sigric: At a loss as to what to do next, we decided to explore the wonders of the Schaffenfest. This gave Merriella a chance to test her gastronomic mettle in a pie eating competition (who had ever heard of such a thing), and Kurt a chance to test his pugilistic skills against a carnival fighter. While both laboured heroically against their respective challenges neither was able to succeed, Merriella succumbing to the soporific effects of meat pie, and Kurt falling to a well placed blow to the jaw.

I was able to find a passable leg of roast lamb, and Erwin an acceptable ale for our mid-day victuals, and we espied a travelling show proclaiming to house wonders from far off lands. As I hadn’t had the opportunity to travel in too many years, I was interested in what this supposed doctor had been able to collect together. One of the attraction was a goblin, blighted even beyond the norm for his kind, cursed with a third leg. The creature attempted to escape, but was brought low by Corvin’s bola. The goblin’s owner was effusive in his praise, and we decided to wait until the next showing. Merriella found an antique vendor who offered something more than the normal carnival junk. The two ended up deep in conversation, but they didn’t speak of anything of import in earshot.

Finally the travelling show began, most of the “wonders” were nothing more than more chaos-tainted creatures. It angers me to see such abominations breathing Sigmar’s good air, but I was hardly in a position to press the issue. During the show the accursed goblin escaped again! This time it evaded all attempts at capture and fled into the sewers.

Into the Sewers

Sigric: The local constabulary was disquieted to say the least with the prospect of a mutant goblin running around the city, and the goblin’s owner wanted his star exhibit back. We agreed to pursue the creature into the sewers and recover it (for suitable remuneration, of course).

The sewer was predictably unpleasant, the only light we had was a pair of lanterns, and the malodorous air disquieted all of us, except Kurt, who was used to it.

We followed the Goblin to a room deep within the sewers and discovered the site of a blasphemous ritual. I had seen nothing like it, suggesting it wasn’t the work of a sanctioned cult, I was never permitted to read about the rituals of forbidden cults during my studies. The ritual summoned some kind of daemon, using the goblin as a sacrifice. I was agog at the sight of the thing, though Corvin and Merriella fared worse. Erwin and Kurt Fought the creature valiantly, though Erwin only narrowly escaped death after it threw him across the room. Once Corvin and I recovered our wits, we were able to join in and finally destroy the thing.

Mauled but still alive, we regrouped and prepared to leave the sewer. We had much to discuss with the authorities …

Corvins recount:

So we got to Bogenhafen fancy didnt seem to like it too much for some reason but I was’nt listening so I never found out why. Anyway the rest of us went to the court house to ask about Ugly’s nobility crap as it turns no one heard anything about the law firm that supposed to be handling it, smells fishy to me but it aint my business. I got poncy to read out if there were any bounties for me but no luck, so we went and picked up fancy from the bottom of his mug and went to the fair grounds. When we got stunty got all excited about some pie eating thing which she ended up failing at, stupid fat hobbit. ugly had a go at lasting 3 minutes in the ring with some brick of a man, that also ended badly when the brick finally landed a blow on him. We came across some poor dwarf in the stocks so I paid his bail and he damn near humped my leg off and followed me for a ways till he got sidetracked by more booze. We also came across this guy showing of “strange and mystical beasts” more like beasties he nailed extra limbs to, as it turns out the were fully attached and not just nailed on some three legged gobbo made a bid for freedom, but with my lightning quick reflex and perfect aim I nabbed him with my bola. The guy purveying this exhibit was full of thanks so we had a free showing of his freak show, I only stayed to see if any of ugly’s family showed up. Anyway as we were watching away that damn gobbo breaks free and legs it through the crowd and down into the sewer, old top hat guy didnt like this too much and comissioned us to go after the foul beasty, naturally we accepted so into the muck we went.

Once we got down there the stench was incredible but Ugly didn’t seem to mind, oh and did I mention it was dark so dark I could see my hand in front of my face good thing we had lanterns. hobbit seemed a touch edgy being down here, wasn’t she a tomb robber? she should be fine in this muck. Found a lump blocking off the flow of effluent and after rolling it out and searching it we found it was in fact the dwarf a paid the bail for, poor bastard.

We finally came to a door Ugly got the heeby jeebies about it but we pryed it open and went in anyway. we found what was left of the gobbo and weird scratchings on the floor. As we were nosing around some horrible thing appeared with a puff of smoke and I almost shat myself, then on closer inspection I had in fact shat myself. Right I thought I’m not having some beasty make me look like a mug so grabbed up my weapons and slammed them into the foul thing and it screeched and wailed and pulled free of my axe the Ugly walloped him and the beasty was no more. It was at this point I realised the fancy was across the other side of the room looking like his leg was almost gone and everyone else was bleeding rather alot except for the stunty who was nowhere to be seen, so ugly hobbled off to find her I searched myself for wounds and poncy helped fancy (I didnt have a scratch on me, am I invincible?). after regrouping we went back out to fresh air and reported our findings to the tophat man and the constabulary…. how am I unscathed?
